This was such an easy going bride and groom. Jodie and I had been emailing each other and had a quick meeting before her wedding. Normally this might make our shooting experience a little more shy because we didn't know each other too well but we got along great! They were easy going and made it so much fun. Their family was SO GREAT as well!

I am so sad for them because their dogs are part of their family as most pets are. I hope these pictures help them remember their beautiful chocolate lab.

Hello!

I have been M.I.A. due to being out of town and trying to handle some biznaz ;)

This beautiful-stunning, child charmed me to no end. I let her just smile when she wanted and do what she wanted and this is what she gave me. She has the "It" factor as I call it. My niece Maven I feel has the same thing. They look at the camera and capture my soul.

This FUN, sweet and close family and I have been doing their Christmas shots for a few years now and I feel like an old lady. Two of the sons are getting married and one is going on a mission. WOW! Where does time go?! The boys are marrying some super pretty and sweet girls. I am excited to shoot one of the weddings. I would post more but seriously my body aches this has been a super busy weekend prepping for my trip.

Hello readers! I am doing a casting call for ages of 13-30. It's for a very cool and exciting project.

To apply:

3. tell us a little about your personal style (just a little - don't be intimidated)

You don't have to have modeling experience but if you are a model or trying to build your portfolio this is your chance at a free session.

There is no monetary payment for the session. However, you will receive 20 images edited with Reproduction Release so you are able to use for High School Senior Shots, Engagements, Bridals, Portfolio, Fathers Day Gift... etc. :D

I will announce on a new post when we have chosen our models. More casting calls to come so if you are not chosen for this project, we will be creating files for future sessions.

Reception Details

Photography by McKenzie hired me to shoot the reception for this beautiful and sweet couple in Kaysville UT (Amen for my GPS System). Everyone was so welcoming and kind... I felt like I was one of them (and some guests thought I was since they are Hispanic) LOL I got kisses and hugs and honestly I couldn't stop looking at this couple because they kept smiling SO BIG and greeting everyone with such surprise and love.

My little guy has been EXTREMELY sick so posts are small.

First Communion

This handsome kid did his first communion this Saturday. His mom is my moms friend and she hired me to come shoot during the ceremony and we did a quick family session after in the church's yard. It was a neat experience for me never have been to anything like this. I was very impressed with all the kids and though sometimes they made me giggle I admire that most (specially the girls) kept their hands in prayer the entire TWO HOURS. Impressive!

My niece and nephew found this huge mounted 20x30 ish print in my moms stuff and loved that it was me (I guess to see their aunt so small). It brought back memories because I actually remember that day. It was a door to door Photographer and he set up his little carpet in our living room and I felt SO SPECIAL. SO PURTY. ;) He was very nice and I remember loving every minute of it! I hope my clients kids enjoy themselves as well.

When younger I had blonder hair and my eyes were green. If I find some of those I'll post.

Today was the third part to the Kenneth Linge Photographing People Seminar and WOW I had a blast! He paired off photographers and had us go in stations through out the day playing with different lighting and flying "solo" for the most part to see how much we had learned ... though I am sure I drove Merilyn crazy a few times because I was doing crazy (not in a cool way) stuff I had a blast learning. The models were SO AWESOME and can we say gorgeous for everyone in here?! LOVED THEM! I am totally on a high.

This fabulous couple is getting married July 11th (a popular requested date for me) and we wanted to shoot their engagements in Park City near their wedding area so we can get acquainted for their wedding day. I had a great time getting to know them better. We went to eat dinner after and I was starving so I swallowed a chicken sandwich and I paid for it later! :( I get VERY car sick and by the time we hit 8th north in Orem ... well I'll spare you details. I am SO glad Rob was driving because I would have passed out driving through that Canyon by myself at night! Sorry I ran out of your car guys. I hope you like these! ;)

So, it's no secret, photographers blog stalk other photographers. It's an addiction! I have some photographers I check out about 100 times a week. The same ones, over and over again. AHAHAHAAHA But one of my most favorite is Jasmine Star. You go to her blog and it's like this yummy soap opera (I am Latina so we love our novelas), she is my Novela. She is funny, charismatic and her work is the BOMB! I have been stalking her for a couple of years now... I am not ashamed to say. BUT I HAD NO IDEA SHE HAD A TWIN. Here's a secret for you, all my life I have always wanted a twin. When I was little I would dream up all the things we could do and get away with if I had an identical twin. And now to find out this woman I totally idolize has a twin I sit here in shock... sad for me. AHAHAHAHAHAHA

Goals

All weekend I meant to sit down and write down some personal goals I have. Blog hopping I saw that one of my most favorite photographers "Kelly Moore" did the same this weekend and asked that her readers make their own list. So, she's my inspiration to actually type them up.

1. Be better at mailing out letters/packages/bills. (Shelby and Chris are saying "AMEN SISTA" LOL ;)
2. Be more patient. O man ... this is a lifetime goal for me. I want things and I want them now. Or I lose hope. :(
(Wow these first two I think belong on the next list... ahaha)
3. Blog more often both here and my personal blog.
4. Take Logan for walks or a park everyday for at least an hour.
5. Teach Logan to speak more clear and prepare him for school next year. So many of my friends kids impress me, reminds me where I am failing.
6. Take one picture every day for ME of things that inspire me/ blog that picture
7. Attend the two seminars I am drooling over this year to improve my photography skills (I so desperately want to be cool like the people I admire so much...."I think I can, I think I can..." ;)
8. Decorate my kitchen
9. Go visit a new part of UT I've never been to before once a month.
10. I think 10 goals for the Summer might be pushing it for me but I'd also like to start painting again. I have a huge white 20x28 canvas under my bed and a box of oil paints calling out my name.

Truly un-realistic goals but I'll type for giggles

1. Answer my phone/listen to my voicemail more often than once every two weeks.
2. Lose 15-20 lbs as healthy as I can.
3. Go to the gym everyday (AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA - I don't know which one I despise more "snow" or "exercise"
4. Speak less "Spanglish"
5. Start writing poetry again. I JUST CAN'T GET INSPIRED.
6. Be less forgetful (i.e. not lose my keys at least once a day, show up to grocery store without my debit card, forget my camera to a family event, forget that I am wearing my jammies when desperately running errands, not lock the door to the house before I am done taking everything out, not forget the milk in the car, not leave my purse on my hood, not lose my cell phone twice a day, not forget where my sunglasses are while they rest on my head, not forget where I put that "thing" two seconds ago, not forget to proof read my posts before hitting publish (and my emails - again Shelby and Chris say "Amen Sista"), not forget my train of thought in almost every conversation I have.... you know ALL THAT FUN STUFF I FORGET EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE!!!! AAAAAAHHHH And, NO I can't blame it on being a mom, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY. As long as I can remember...
7. Be more organized
8. Finish the personal projects I start

Phone Broke

So, I have a case for my phone which I took off when I left to PR. MY LUCK I drop it on the pavement and it breaks on one side (I have a flips phone and once side broke off) but it was still working. UNTIL TODAY. :( The phone turns on...I can hear my texts coming in and calls but the screen is light pale blue.

I'm back from Puerto Rico

I didn't realize until I got back this weekend that my post saying I was leaving for PR never got published.

As most people know I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I grew up speaking Spanglish with a mom who was born and raised in New York (affectionately called a "NewyoRican"). I enjoyed our local beach even on rainy days. I rode my bike all over town until late at at night and I ate fruits from my grandmas backyard like passion fruit. I still keep close contact with friends I have had since age 4 and let me tell you trying to see all of my dad's side of the family and all of my 200+ friends out there was tiring. I felt bad I got so many calls from people who wanted to see me whom I didn't get to see. traveling with Logan was difficult in that there are nap times, scheduled eating times and specific sleep times. My wonderful cousin Erica came with me and watched Logan while I did my shoots and helped me keep my head straight. She left earlier and the day after she left I lost the car keys. It took me 3 hours to figure out I threw them in the trash. THAT ME! ahahahaa

I had the opportunity to go down to shoot some families who hired me to do work and also take a 2 week vaca with my family and friends. Needless to say I had a great time and after last year, this is exactly what my little guy and I needed. Logan loved the beach and even picked up some Spanish words. He attracted quite the attention with his light hair and blue eyes and he loved it.

My heart ached to leave but I hope to be back soon, seeing that my in-box has been full the past two days from new Puerto Rico clients who are asking me to come back for their shoot. I am going to post A LOT of pictures so be ready!

Hey everyone I am sorry I got lazy with my blog! I am here, I am working, I am happy and I have been doing great things.

I've spent a lot of quality time with my 3 year old who keeps me on my toes.

I have been attending the amazing Kenneth Linge Seminars that have inspired me and educated me on lighting and how to handle my business.

I have been promising a new blog and website with my new business name which is Remember When by Raquel. I have it almost completed except some of the "word" pages. And my blog well thats more of a challenge, I want it to be cool and modern but no success (any suggestions?).

O, the cutie with the beautiful blue eyes whom I've been photographing from birth is now 6 months and making the cutest noises. As I sat there watching her parents enjoy her so much; it reminded me when my little guy was that age and I really enjoyed that stage.

Cold Cold Saturday Wedding

On Saturday afternoon this sweet couple, their excited family and I battled the bitter cold to celebrate with this sweet couple. They came out of the temple with HUGE smiles and the bride went around hugging her friends and telling everyone how happy she was with such enthusiasm you couldn't help but giggle to yourself and be happy for them.

I warned the grooms siblings that any silly pictures would FOR SURE end up on the blog and I even found one from the bride and groom. Be careful friends... I WILL post silly pictures! :D

My Baby Doll

My Baby Doll niece turned 7 months last week. I do my nieces and nephews newborn, 6 month and 1 year shots and then once a year. I missed her 6 months so here's a quick 5 minute shoot we did at my house the other day. Isn't she just so yummy!

This family was so cute! And while our kiddos still napped we were able to take a few pictures of just the couple, and they were SO EASY to shoot! They kept laughing at me and saying I tell everyone they are easy as models but I don't. They had fun, they gave me different poses and worked it for me.

By the way Jessica that portrait family picture with your doggie (that I want to steal) she is smiling! Click on it and you'll hopefully see it better.

These are my friends and their first baby girl. As soon as I took a peak of this little one I could see that she is her moms spitting image. She was such a GOOD girl til the very end when she couldn't take it anymore and begged to be fed. I love these guys and I am SO happy for them!

This Sunday I hooked up with the boys to have their family pictures taken and it was a nightmare to say the least. We went to this bridge and it had the coolest thing of all "ROCKS!" BAD IDEA! Logan just wanted to run around and throw rocks. LOL So I did the best I could and realized how much harder it is to take pictures of family. I hope Adam likes them though.

Last week I was feeling a little ... well overwhelmed with work and not my cheerful self. Seeing that I am with my 3 year old or with clients every day no one really knew this. But I have some amazing friends who always "feel it" when I am not myself. I had UPS deliver this beautiful box from Artichoke and Company in SLC. How gorgeous is this?! Made my day!

Small Sneak Previews

So I had two different clients comment on how late I've been emailing them and they felt bad that I find myself at 2 am creating Holiday cards and editing images. But I know that all photographers are working overtime to get their clients pictures done in time. :D I am happy to say I am just a few more sleepless nights away from being caught up with Holiday sessions and moving on to my two weddings I need to edit. Then a mini vacation from work stuff and working on some personal projects for Christmas. WAHOO!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving. I know I did! Lots of yummy food, family and kids running around. Then we all went to see "Four Christmases" and we laughed so hard at the spit up scene. Well, I hate spit up myself and had to look away because I was gagging. LOL

I attended an incredible, inspiring seminar on Saturday with an amazing photographer "kennethlinge.com". It was such an honor to have this very kind and funny Artist share with us secrets that had us all captured. I can't wait for the remainder classes. I will post some cool night shots as soon as I am done with some other projects. I was SO excited to learn tips on the fashion industry as well...seriously can't wait!

I took these pictures for a friend of mine in Lehi and her cute nephew came along to "see" if he'd let us take some shots. I am still going through the images but I KNEW I could not post any pictures without posting this little guy just run into the biggest puddle he could find as we all watched with open mouths (his mom, his dad, his aunt, 2 cousins, Logan and me with a HUGE grin and camera slowly shifting to my face to take the pics). LOVE IT!

Chimera Super Pro+Wht LG Soft Box For Sale

I no longer have room for my SUPER FABULOUS Chimera Super Pro+Wht LG Soft Box in my small apartment and I am in need of selling it. I bought this soft box about a year ago and rarely used it. It's all set up which trust me you'll thank me... and it's occupying most of my living room. I am really sad to have to sell it because I just used one light and this soft box and was able to get such beautiful lighting from the in-door shots I did. It currently had a ring attached to it to fit my Elinchrom light but you can buy a different attachment for your lighting at pictureline. Which is where I bought this soft box and I have attached a link to their website so you can see the product information.

As you can see a year ago I bought it for $509.00 plus tax...I am selling it for $350.00

Easy going...

This family and I hooked up at the Utah Lake at their favorite summer spot. THey were so sweet and though the kids were ready to go home and crash they entertained me by bringing me seashells and allowing me to harass them with my camera. They are all beautiful.

What a privilege to be a part of someones wedding specially when it's someone you love as family. It was a beautiful day where everyone was overwhelmed with joy for these two. The evening was classy and I was excited to once sit down and enjoy the yummy food and even sneak in a dance. AHAHAHAHAHA (I laugh about the dance...if you want to know why I laugh email me...)

Wow, so this family did something for me that I am SO grateful for. On Friday afternoon on my way to this session I was driving on I-15 and a bee was in my car. I freaked! I lowered the drivers side window of my 92 Nissan Sentra, the window I know I am NOT supposed to lower because it doesn't go back up. Well, I did and it was half way down. I made a few calls to try to get help on the situation and both parties were a little cold towards me about it. For example Nissan told me, "kick the door hard, the button for the window should click back in, pull the button as hard as you can and then don't mess with it. We'll order the $200 part and in a week have you bring it in. Don't know what else to say".

So, I arrived at the location and I am sure people thought I was crazy because here I am kicking this door down and pulled so hard on that darn button that I had a bruise. Embarrassed, feeling low and coming to the realization that taking care of myself SUCKS I did my session. At one point I was talking to the gorgeous Brandy and mentioned to her my problem and asked if her husband could help in on the door kicking. LOL After our session, the kids were all hungry and tired and the family was ready to go, they stayed with me (tears are welling up thinking about it again) and did not leave until my window was up. 25 mins later, a small fuse fire and my door dismantled my window was up. I no longer had to think about my car sitting outside my apartment possibly being stolen or driving around in this weird weather with my son in the car for another week.

It might sound silly and simple to the readers but if you knew what this meant to me you'd understand the silly tears.

SO a BIG THANK YOU to this family for me! (My promise of prints still stands).

This family was so easy. Yes, that many children and none of them complained or cried during our entire session. The candid shots we did in the end touched me so much because you can tell what a great relationship these parents have with these kids.

I love shooting children, they are so natural and perfect in every way. They don't worry about their hair, or if their tummies are showing, they don't care about people watching them (for the most part) and they have the BEST expressions!
